Tye got his first bike an ’89 Pee Wee 50 at 3½ to which this day he still has. From here he took an interest in racing and began building a racing career. At age 11 Tye received a sponsorship with Honda which saw him ride alongside Jono Porter for the next 4 years and then move onto Yamaha. During these junior years he consistently placed in the top 3 in Queensland and top 5 nationally. At the same he was also competing supercross events held in Brisbane and Sydney where he consistently placed in the top 3 competing against current Australian champions Dan Reardon, Ryan Marmont, Danny Anderson, Matt and Jake Moss and many more.
2003 saw Tye gain his pro ranking and a ride with Husqvarna for 2004. Unfortunately in pre-season training he sustained a major injury which nearly saw his foot amputated and put him out of action for a year and a half. During this time he began to focus on his university degree and began working as an accountant. From here Tye began to be heavy involved with the Toowoomba Motocross Club as treasurer, event promoter/organiser and coach. Now after a lengthy period of time off Tye is currently climbing the ranks to Pro level across Queensland and providing coaching nationally where he is rebuilding his speed and fitness to hopefully soon be back competing competitively for Queensland and National titles.
