Brad Kirkels
Instructor
ACCREDATION: MA Level One (prov)
Brad was first introduced to motorbikes at the age of 5. His father did what all fathers do with budding mx kids….. Took him to Mr Motocross meets at Echo Valley to watch the likes of Jeff Leisk and Stephen Gall cutting laps and putting it to the rest of the field. After these outings he was hooked, an mx / enduro track was built on his parents’ property near Clifton and Brad spent a lot of time either here or at his mate’s property honing his skills.
A move to the Sunshine Coast saw Brad racing mx and flat track at Gympie and mx at Kilcoy meets until he took a leap of faith and joined the Royal Australian Air Force. He completed an apprenticeship as an Electrician / Avionics Technician, and then transferred trades to become an Armament Technician. Unfortunately due to work commitments the motorbikes were kept at bay for some years until whilst on posting to Sydney there was no resisting, an mx bike found its way to the shed and his two children were also introduced to the sport. Not long after Brad and family uprooted from suburbia and took a posting to the Northern Territory, once there it wasn’t long before he was back in the thick of the mx scene and found form, now he is one of the front runners at his club.
Brad will be racing club level ‘A’ grade at Katherine Off-road Motorcycle Sports Club and Intermediate Class at TEMCC this year. Plans are afoot for the Finke desert race in the near future and if all things are equal a posting to RAAF Base Williamtown will see Brad on the east coast in the thick of the mx, sx scene. Brad’s main priority is to obtain his level one accreditation and facilitate the ADF Motorcycle Safety Awareness campaign for the Northern Territory in conjunction with PROART.
